What is SAP FICO?

SAP FICO is the finance backbone of SAP S/4HANA. Financial Accounting (FI) captures every transaction that affects a company’s books (supplier invoices, customer payments, asset purchases and tax) and produces statutory reports such as the balance sheet and profit and loss statement. Controlling (CO) looks inward, tracking costs by department, project or product so managers can see where money is made and lost.

Because every sales order, purchase and production run eventually becomes a financial posting, FICO consultants sit at the centre of almost every SAP project.

Why learn SAP FICO in 2026?

Companies still running SAP ECC are moving to S/4HANA ahead of the end of ECC mainstream maintenance in 2027. Finance is usually the first and most complex workstream in those projects, so consultants who understand the Universal Journal, new Asset Accounting and margin analysis are consistently in demand.

How this course is different

  • Live, trainer-led classes with consultants who have delivered real S/4HANA finance projects
  • Your own practice time on S/4HANA, not just slides and screenshots
  • Integration-first teaching: you see how MM and SD transactions land in finance
  • Interview-ready outcomes: project scenarios, certification mocks and resume support

Get the detailed syllabus
  1. 01
    Week 1 4 topics Hands-on

    SAP & S/4HANA foundations

Why it matters on projects: Every interview starts here: if you cannot explain what S/4HANA changed and how a project is run, the configuration questions never come.

    1. 01 ERP concepts and the SAP landscape
    2. 02 S/4HANA architecture and the HANA database
    3. 03 Fiori launchpad and SAP GUI navigation
    Show all 4 topics
    1. 04 SAP Activate implementation methodology
  2. 02
    Week 2 5 topics Hands-on

Enterprise structure & FI global settings

Why it matters on projects: The organisational structure is decided once per project and is nearly impossible to change later, so consultants who get it right are trusted with design.

    1. 01 Company, company code, business area and controlling area
    2. 02 Fiscal year and posting period variants
    3. 03 Chart of accounts and G/L account groups
    Show all 5 topics
    1. 04 Document types, number ranges and field status groups
    2. 05 Currencies and exchange rates
  3. 03
    Weeks 3–4 5 topics Hands-on

    General Ledger accounting

Why it matters on projects: The Universal Journal is the single biggest change from ECC. Migration and greenfield projects both hire for it.

    1. 01 Universal Journal (ACDOCA) and ledgers
    2. 02 Parallel accounting with leading and non-leading ledgers
    3. 03 G/L postings, parking and reversals
    Show all 5 topics
    1. 04 Foreign currency valuation
    2. 05 Financial statement versions
  4. 04
    Week 5 5 topics Hands-on

    Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

Why it matters on projects: Payables and receivables carry most of the daily transaction volume, and most of the support tickets. Support roles are where many first SAP jobs are.

    1. 01 Business Partner for suppliers and customers
    2. 02 Invoice and payment postings
    3. 03 Automatic payment program
    Show all 5 topics
    1. 04 Dunning and credit basics
    2. 05 Down payments and special G/L transactions
  5. 05
    Week 6 4 topics Hands-on

    Asset Accounting

Why it matters on projects: New asset accounting is mandatory in S/4HANA, so every conversion project needs someone who can configure and reconcile it.

    1. 01 Chart of depreciation and asset classes
    2. 02 Acquisition, transfer and retirement
    3. 03 Depreciation keys and the depreciation run
    Show all 4 topics
    1. 04 Assets under construction and settlement
  6. 06
    Week 7 4 topics Hands-on

    Taxes & integration

Why it matters on projects: GST, TDS and the links to purchasing and sales are where Indian implementations get complicated, and where a FICO consultant earns their seat.

    1. 01 GST configuration concepts for India
    2. 02 Withholding tax (TDS)
    3. 03 MM–FI integration and automatic account determination
    Show all 4 topics
    1. 04 SD–FI revenue account determination
  7. 07
    Weeks 8–9 5 topics Hands-on

    Controlling (CO)

Why it matters on projects: Management reporting is why companies buy SAP. Consultants who can do both FI and CO are paid for both.

    1. 01 Cost elements in S/4HANA
    2. 02 Cost centre accounting and planning
    3. 03 Internal orders and settlement
    Show all 5 topics
    1. 04 Profit centre accounting
    2. 05 Margin analysis
  8. 08
    Week 10 4 topics Hands-on

    Closing, reporting & career prep

Why it matters on projects: Period-end close is the one process every finance team runs every month, and the one interviewers ask you to walk through step by step.

    1. 01 Month-end and year-end closing
    2. 02 Fiori financial reports and analytics apps
    3. 03 End-to-end project scenario
    Show all 4 topics
    1. 04 Certification practice and mock interviews

FAQ

SAP FICO course questions

Is SAP FICO a good choice for commerce graduates?

Yes. FICO maps directly to accounting concepts you already know (ledgers, payables, receivables, assets and costing), so commerce, finance and accounting graduates usually learn it faster than other modules.

What is the difference between SAP FI and SAP CO?

FI (Financial Accounting) records external financial transactions for statutory reporting, while CO (Controlling) analyses internal costs and profitability for management decisions. In S/4HANA both post to the same Universal Journal, which is why they are taught together.

Can a fresher get a job after SAP FICO training?

Freshers typically start as SAP support analysts, key users or associate consultants. Strong accounting basics, hands-on configuration practice, certification and interview preparation make a big difference to shortlisting.
